Rookery Bay Research Reserve’s Student Institute for Marine Science (SIMS) is the ideal summer half-day camp for 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th-grade students with an interest in the environment, marine science and marine biology. Participants will explore the coastal environment through excursions into the 110,000 acres of coastal land and water in Rookery Bay Research Reserve as well as get hands-on in the laboratories of Rookery Bay. Each day will offer a unique theme and experience including lab programs about shark research, plankton and water quality, kayaking on the bay with biologists, birding basics in the estuary, excursions on the beach and water to survey the marine life, upland biking/hiking adventures and more. Participants can choose from individual themed days, attend just one day of camp or the entire week! Each camp experience will also include a look at the mission and wildlife conservation efforts of Rookery Bay and exposure to the research and monitoring of the coastal estuary environment.
